So we went to Richard's wedding in austira - AMAZING. This mountain was in full view from the wedding hotel/spa location from every room. If you're ever there and have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket, I highly recommend it. You just don't have the kind of design and quality in North America.
And as for the marks all over our baby's face.... we didn't do it. I swear! When we were staying in the Tuscany area of Italy with some long lost friends, we left Indie with the hotel babysitter, who "just for a moment" left her in her stroller unbuckled. On seeing the opportunity for exploration, she immediately did a faceplant onto the cobblestone. Ouch! Just a scratch or two though - she's a tough little one!

This is a very cool little flash app that David found to show off photo galleries. I highly recommend doing a right click and selecting the full screen option. (oh - and mac users... sorry - this isn't for you.)

Melisa came over the other day and took these photos... awwww.... of Indie and her friends. (They're 6, 8 and 7 months from left to right. ) It was intended to be a get together of all the babies from the bellies session with the 5 pregnant moms. Super fun to get together. thanks Melisa! Somewhat begrudgingly, I'm parting with my wedding dress. For a few reasons..
First, it just is too amazing of an object to just hang in my closet out of view. That's just selfish of me - we share the good things, right?
Second, I've been spring cleaning lately and have come to a realization. All those college textbooks that I paid a lot of money for, and learned a lot from, and treasured at one time take up a lot of space. And are really heavy. And not once - not even a little peek - have I looked at them since I left school - well... a while ago. ;-) I'm sure they could have been better used. And I'm also sure that my roommates over the years could have better used the space as well. So my lesson - even treasured expensive things have a place and time, and a life of their own. Bye lovely gown!

So, Indie's excitement over the vegetables this day was just too adorable for words. Really.

And I also want to show off the stroller blankie that I made for her. A smart vancouver mom made the design - a strapped around the back blanket that is waterproof on one side and soft fleece on the other. It keeps the baby dry, AND she can't kick it off! She sells this in a modern MEC-like nice material and well made version - but I couldn't do the 70 bucks for a blankie. So, (thanks for the design idea!), I made this version with some fleece and a discarded outdoor tablecloth that I found discarded outside the back of Value Village. Go reusability! I love the bright colors on a rainy day too.

In cleaning up for next year we took in the last harvest from the garden this week. Quite the bounty! Lots of Kale, some endive, chard, and tiny brussel sprouts! How cool! I've never grown those before, so I accidentally took the tops off or they would have been bigger. We're going to try again this year. So small, but still mighty tasty. We also had some great sized beets! those are definitely in for this year again. Not bad for a middle of winter harvest.

What a cool method for making prints... all it takes is an embroidery hoop, some thin fabric, elmers glue and some ink. hmmm now my brain is goin on all sorts of prints to do! thanks to ROSE for showing me how, and this random person for posting the idea on the net.

I'm thinking about having a craft party to do more... anyone in?

New Indie video!

Okay - I've gotten round to putting up a couple videos of Indie.
The first is a few shots of her as a newborn. Most notably the beginnings of her little singing technique to put herself to sleep. This little song has now developed all sorts of new soothing sounds she sings herself to sleep with most of the time... basically whenever her mouth doesn't have a nipple in it.
The other has shots of Indie all around 5 months, including her first solid food! Enjoy.

Or at least the most pathetic moment I've ever recorded.
Morning sickness (read all day nausea),with a bad headcold, and alone in Toronto, I was in an apartment with a fridge that didn't work. Which meant crawling therough the urban street smells holding it back to obtain any food. Wahhhh!
I took this video message with my camera and sent it to David in Vancouver. Here it is in full glory - walking that fine line between sweet and pathetic.

If you haven't already, here is one more excuse to skype-call us.
Our new fancy webcam not only has an extra clear picture, but all sorts of fun filters too! Soooo nifty! I'm also partly posting this because I know that by the time Indie starts calling people, everyone will have video on even their cellphones, and she'll say " wow mom, you couldn't SEE people when you talked to them?", and I'll feel really really dinosaur old, so I'm bringing you all along that journey with me.
We use our webcam a lot with skype, which is way better than just a normal phone call, waaaaay better. so get your vid on everyone, and skype us at "david.kirsten.marshall".

For those of you unfamiliar with skype, read on... You dont' need a webcam yourself to call us (but it IS more fun of course). Just download the skype application from skype.com, and then put in our name as shown in the quotes above, and it will go bringggg bringggg all over our house - as this is our home phone and hooked up to all sorts of speakers (oh we are sooooo techie) and then boom - there we'll be! Intsta-marshalls!

Of course, then again, you may be saying to yourself..... hmm. do I really want to see the Marshall family as aliens in live motion? Of course you do!

Yes I made Indie, but also the dress and bow!
It was my first project with my new sewing machine and boy am I proud. Anyone who could really sew likey wouldn't have even kept it as it has lots of mistakes, but hey, I'm learning with every thing I make. I'd like to try a wrap version of this dress next. And how adorable is that bow, really? There are more (less blurry) photos on the flickr site . The whole thing makes me think of Mardi Gras somehow...
I made this for Lynda's wedding reception, and I think Indie was the best dressed there. Okay, well, maybe except for the bride.

We were down in Mexico for the holidays. ahhh sunshine.
Maya jumping into the pool like this made me realise how much older she's getting so quickly. At this rate, Indie will be off to explore other countries on her own before i can blink!

Isnt' this a great cannonball - excellent splash giving Papa a soaker!

Indie sleeps like this most of the time now... seems she has some painful reflux acids bubbling up, poor thing. But in the chair like this, she'll still sleep for hours. Really, even when she's having trouble, or sleeping on her back, she still doesn't cry - just looks uncomfortable and groans a bit. What a trooper. Little angel, we hope she gets control of it soon.
Any other advice to help her through it anyone?

Indie and David dressed up as a tree and owl for halloween. They got mobbed by photographers at the Parade of Lost Souls... I mean... who could resist really?
I especially like this costume because it plays on Indies natural talents. Her favourite, well, lets be honest, her only word so far is "who who"!
And the tree plays on David's natural talents too... er... ahem... well, he is quite tall.

She arrived on August 17th, at 5:52pm!
(Notice the lack of entries until now. ;-)

The one word that sums up the birth best is LONG. Labour was long (2 days), pushing was long (8 hours more), she was long (57cm / 23"), even her fingers and toes were long!

There are lots more photos of her. We'll keep posting new ones here - they're in chronological order, so new ones will just appear at the end of the list.

We think we'll keep her. ;-)

Pitt River Hot springs trip

David and the gang went on the best Hot Springs trip that coastal BC has to offer. (well - except maybe hot springs cove...), and we made this little video about the trip. Its a hour boat ride, 22km on your bike, and a short walk down the river to the springs. Yummy!!!!
